At what point should I contact my branch manager to push for my first Station?

I'm going into army BCT. I know I'll fill out the dream sheet, but I was told that talking directly to a branch manager would help. At what point should I start calling up my branch manager to ask for a specific duty station? Is there anyone else I can speak with about getting a particular Duty Station?
