Can someone help me identify this spider/animal?

When I was a little kid, I remember opening the door once to see an orange spider/insect thing (looked like an orange tarantula) crawl quickly into my kitchen. It had a human face, and my mother said it was called the "Son of the Earth" in Spanish. That's about all I remember, but it was a very strange animal. Does anyone know the name of it?
