CONTRACEPTIVE PILL: quick question...?

on the leaflet it said "start taking the pill on the first day of you period and you will be AUTOMATICALLY protected after one pill (ofcourse you have to keep taking the pill daily to retain protecction from pregnancy) " Why is this???? im confused
