Should the thumbs-up/thumbs-down icons by comments on YouTube keep a tally of each rather than an average?

I wasn't even aware they did it that way. So if someone has 2 thumbs up and 8 thumbs down if could be 10 times that amount? Useless, anyway. They generally have nothing to do with the correctness or worth of an answer. If someone asks how much is two plus two and you answer four, you will almost certainly get at least 2 thumbs down. Idle hands are the devil's workshop.
