I have an American eskimo - does anybody have tried and true methods removing fur from carpet?

I have the furminator, trying to keep him cool during the summer, etc. I think he will shed no matter what I do. However, what is a good way to get his fur physically off the carpet? I have vacuumed but it won't pick it up. If anything, it will roll the fur into small bunches. The most effective way is picking it up with my own hands but it takes forever. Any suggestions?
